coloradobeemers  > Rides > Ride to Genoa, CO 4 28 06
A saturday ride to the eastern plains of Colorado to the Tower tourist trap. A strange old building with many rooms crammed with artifacts of all kinds. BTW, if you go, be aware there are no facilities at this Disneyland of the grassland. No toilets you would let your ex use, no water, no pop machine, no gas in town, no nuttin. The ride was cooler and wetter than expected, giving a good adventure flavor to the day. Kidding aside, thanks Carl for a good time.

coloradobeemers > Dark down here too. Glad they left these remnents of hand rails. Gives a guy something to bump into.
coloradobeemers > A little on the eerie side!
That glow can't be good...
coloradobeemers > Bravely they soldier on into the abyss...or a 200 foot deep hole in the ground half filled with water! These sites each housed 3 missiles, so you had a complete crew for 3 shots, versus the Minuteman (current system) of control centers that can fire many missiles located all over the prairie.
coloradobeemers > Now perfecting their escape, these guys are very trusting of a 50 year old fixed ladder going up an escape hatch. The angle iron held large bundles of cable for power and communication back in the day.
coloradobeemers > Going ever deeper, notice the round tube in the ceiling in front of the very robust (solid steel) blast door. In case of attack, the tube was filled with pea gravel, and when released, it filled the room, giving more protection.
coloradobeemers > Here is Jeff showing off the features of this lovely one-owner...hummm, not many windows, Jeff, where's the view?
Actually they are standing in front of a 40 foot wide by 160 feet deep silo where the missile was once housed. The silo is mostly filled with water at this time. Not a great place to take a swim!
coloradobeemers > Interesting digs.
coloradobeemers > Other strange beings once roamed these
corridors. These are the petroglyphs that document their ancient existence.
