Ladies Rides : Ride to Old Colorado City -- by Suzanne Weston
On October 17th five ladies rode to Old Colorado City by way of Pine. It was a
fabulous ride, led by Deb Sauer, with perfect weather and roads, and Deb was the perfect ride leader.
We (Cathy Catrell, Dee Kline, Deb Sauer, Sharon Via, and moi) met at the Blue Sky Café in Lakewood - which we all recommend. Over an excellent breakfast (including blue corn pancakes with pine nuts), we discussed details of the ride and geared up.
Five is almost a perfect number of bikes for group riding, especially with like-minded riders. As it turned out, we were never separated by a red light the entire trip.
We rode from Lakewood through Morrison, Kittredge, Indian Hills, Pine, Deckers, and Woodland Park, to Old Colorado City, where we walked around and had a late lunch. Sharon and I came home to Parker by way of the Garden of the Gods and Hwy 83, and the other ladies boogied up I25 (or as much as the I25 "parking lot" would allow!).

Dirty Dozen - Aug 15-16, 2009 : A gathering of well known and little known passes along US 285 helped those who were working on their passbagger patch. Weather was excellent and the roads were dry and a bit dusty as the riders tracked down the passes. -- It was another great Dirty Dozen ride. Saturday on the way to the KOA near Buena Vista we went to 5 1/2 dirt passes and 3 1/2 paved passes, including two over the Continental Divide. On Sunday we went to 3 dirt passes and 5 paved passes, including two more crossings of the Continental Divide. We also took the fun ride to the top of Spiral Mountain overlooking Salida. In case you're wondering, the 1/2s come from approaching Trout Creek on dirt and departing on pavement. Over the two days we rode about 500 miles with about 150 off the pavement. Another super weekend in riding in Colorado with a fun bunch of riders. - Photos and captions by Pete, Gary, and Randy.

2009 Colorado Classic 1000 : The 2009 Colorado Classic 1000 was the 3rd annual CC1000 to be held. The ride sold out early, about two months before the start of the event. It started at the Holiday Inn in Lakewood, Colorado, and finished at the Old Town Inn in Crested Butte, Colorado. 65 riders from 12 states left the Start with the goal of completing a challenging 1000-mile route in 24 hours or less. Not an easy route for this task either, mostly scenic two-lane roads through the Colorado and New Mexico high country which crossed the Continental Divide at 9 locations and climbed mountain passes totaling almost 150,000 feet in elevation. There was less than 35 miles of freeway! The riders checked in and their odometers were recorded, and then right at 5:00 AM they filed out, turning in their "Start Cards" and on their way. The weather conditions for the ride were almost perfect, at least for most of the day. Comfortable temps and little chance of rain, though by the end of the ride, the skies opened up in what has become typical Colorado Classic 1000 fashion. The finishers were greeted at the Finish with a commemorative Finisher's award and the opportunity to register with the Iron Butt Association for SaddleSore1000 certfication.

Rhubarb Festival June 13, 2009 : A fun, short ride for breakfast at Pine, CO, for rhubarb laced pancakes, pies, jellies, and a cookbook...all to benefit the local fire unit. The locals turn out as well as visitors and vendors from near and far. Good music is always present, and the laid back community shows a gem of an example of how nice it is to live in the Colorado foothills.

Ride to Genoa : Ride to Genoa is the first of longer rides by the club members, and one that is often ridden in less than Ideal weather. The terrain is High Plains Desert, with only 14 inches of rain each year, but a good portion likes to come during this ride. The winds blow mercilessly, so the chill factor can be low. In spite of this, there is always a good turnout.

Fall leefs from the foothills : Fall colors are hit and miss this year in Colorado, without a major cold snap to set the changes to one time clock, even the same elevation will not give consistancy in timing. However, here is a quick journey on a lovely dirt road in the foothills west of the metro area. A small window into the wonders of fall in the Rockies. (I recommend viewing in "journal" style)

Matt and Jim's Central America Trip : We are still alive and well, and having a fantastic time. It keeps getting better around every corner. The pictures do not do this country justice, the video is going to be even better.

Cool stuff: Best motorcycle roads ever, best parts of Left Hand Canyon over and over again. It is rarely strait, just one turn after another. People are so nice, they don't care where we are from, they don't even ask. They love the bikes and don't ask for anything. We can ride as fast as we want and pass everything. We just wave at the few cops we see and they just smile at us.

Bad stuff: For the most part the roads are fine. Large pot holes have been few, but lots filled in with gravel that need to be avoided. Big trucks hauling ass crossing the center line can wake you up from the dream too. Lots of dogs, and people walking along the small two lane roads also need to be avoided. I've been picking the smallest ones hoping they are the quickest to get out of the way, and if I do hit them it might not bring me down.

The most dangerous thing going on is trying to take these still pictures while dealing with all the stuff above. The video is much easier, and we have a lot more of it. Jim is working on getting in up on his smugmug site. Google keycoydog to check it out. More to come as I get more pictures...enjoy

July 1 Breakfast ride to Mt. Evans : About 10 bikes left the Red Rocks Grill after Saturday Breakfast, headed to Mt. Evans....nice T-shirt weather until we got to the park entrance ($3.00/bike). Here we were told that a bike accident occurred 9 miles from the entrance. The road was in really poor shape at this location, at a amall rest area near a small lake...the rider was unconscious	and was awaiting a helicopter. We had to stop at this location for a few minutes while they directed traffic. We never made it to the top; got caught in a nasty dark cloud full of thunder and soft pea-sized hail that covered 80% of the ground. We all flipped a 'Uey' and returned to Denver via Idaho Springs. Sunshine returned at the park entrance.. here are a few photos.
