Top of the Rockies Rally 2009 : The BMW Motorcycle Club of Colorado's annual Rally was of excellent quality this year! Great friends, food, and fun. The beautiful city park of Paonia with its large shade trees made the heat of the day bearable, and the nights in the 50s delightful sleeping. Each of the three bands were excellent, the beer garden was handy and great food was nearby. And, of course, the riding is exceptional in every direction. The wild flowers at high altitude were bountiful, and the rain held off until everyone was nearly home. If you have photos you would like posted, please contact the photo wrangler at mhd@rmi.net

2009 Colorado Classic 1000 : The 2009 Colorado Classic 1000 was the 3rd annual CC1000 to be held. The ride sold out early, about two months before the start of the event. It started at the Holiday Inn in Lakewood, Colorado, and finished at the Old Town Inn in Crested Butte, Colorado. 65 riders from 12 states left the Start with the goal of completing a challenging 1000-mile route in 24 hours or less. Not an easy route for this task either, mostly scenic two-lane roads through the Colorado and New Mexico high country which crossed the Continental Divide at 9 locations and climbed mountain passes totaling almost 150,000 feet in elevation. There was less than 35 miles of freeway! The riders checked in and their odometers were recorded, and then right at 5:00 AM they filed out, turning in their "Start Cards" and on their way. The weather conditions for the ride were almost perfect, at least for most of the day. Comfortable temps and little chance of rain, though by the end of the ride, the skies opened up in what has become typical Colorado Classic 1000 fashion. The finishers were greeted at the Finish with a commemorative Finisher's award and the opportunity to register with the Iron Butt Association for SaddleSore1000 certfication.

In Memorium: Liz Majors : A bright light went out at BMWMCC Thursday night April 23, 2009...
She was a frequent presence, with bright eyes and broad smile, and she made you feel that everything was always going to be okay. Liz Majors was in the room!
We knew of the love she had for her beautiful daughter Annie, and how she cared for her. We saw them at concerts and at some club parties. They both had a smile on all the time. She was an inspiration to all who knew this special mother/daughter relationship.

She came to mingle, and she came to ride. She rode extremely well, and with anyone. Her beautiful blue BMW was always perfectly clean.
She was a friend to all, and always stepped in to help; to volunteer for almost every job the club offers over the years. Liz was always someone to count on when you needed more help with a club project.

She will be deeply missed by BMWMCC members. Liz Majors was a beautiful person in every sense of the word. Her soul will live on with everyone who knew her.

Ladies Rides : Ride to Old Colorado City -- by Suzanne Weston
On October 17th five ladies rode to Old Colorado City by way of Pine. It was a
fabulous ride, led by Deb Sauer, with perfect weather and roads, and Deb was the perfect ride leader.
We (Cathy Catrell, Dee Kline, Deb Sauer, Sharon Via, and moi) met at the Blue Sky Café in Lakewood - which we all recommend. Over an excellent breakfast (including blue corn pancakes with pine nuts), we discussed details of the ride and geared up.
Five is almost a perfect number of bikes for group riding, especially with like-minded riders. As it turned out, we were never separated by a red light the entire trip.
We rode from Lakewood through Morrison, Kittredge, Indian Hills, Pine, Deckers, and Woodland Park, to Old Colorado City, where we walked around and had a late lunch. Sharon and I came home to Parker by way of the Garden of the Gods and Hwy 83, and the other ladies boogied up I25 (or as much as the I25 "parking lot" would allow!).

Dirty Dozen - Aug 15-16, 2009 : A gathering of well known and little known passes along US 285 helped those who were working on their passbagger patch. Weather was excellent and the roads were dry and a bit dusty as the riders tracked down the passes. -- It was another great Dirty Dozen ride. Saturday on the way to the KOA near Buena Vista we went to 5 1/2 dirt passes and 3 1/2 paved passes, including two over the Continental Divide. On Sunday we went to 3 dirt passes and 5 paved passes, including two more crossings of the Continental Divide. We also took the fun ride to the top of Spiral Mountain overlooking Salida. In case you're wondering, the 1/2s come from approaching Trout Creek on dirt and departing on pavement. Over the two days we rode about 500 miles with about 150 off the pavement. Another super weekend in riding in Colorado with a fun bunch of riders. - Photos and captions by Pete, Gary, and Randy.

Ride and Camp at Riverside, WY : The ride to Riverside Wyoming this July 11-12, 2009 was great success.
Thanks to Bob Coen for organizing the event.
Approximately 25 riders made the wonderful trek through sparsely populated areas of Colorado and Wyoming under a big sky.
Riding the high desert is a treat viewing deer, antelope and even a Golden Eagle today on the return trip.
The riders pitched their tents alongside the Encampment River, or stayed in a quaint motel adjoining the campground. The lodging fees were very reasonable.
Some folks rode to Saratoga for a dip in the Hobo Thermal Pool and the adjacent Platte River while others rode Wyoming SR-70 up to Battle Pass, elevation 9955 ft on the Continental Divide to take in the views and ride the awesome sweepers.
Pat Bygott's fly fishing troupe provided dinner for those in Saratoga while the Mangy Moose Bar and Grill a stroll down the street served great Wyoming beef burgers and cold beer for those who stayed by the camp.
Afterward we all gathered round a blazing fire to enjoy a cool refreshment and tell tales into the wee hours.
A good time was had by all!

A HUGE thank you goes to Siggi for having all of the inventory in a very organized state. Thank you. It made it very easy for the numerous volunteers to load into trailers and unload into the new storage unit in Littleton. We started with a bucket brigade handing of boxes from one to another into the trailer. It went quickly! Then we loaded the shelves into some open trailers; reversing the order at the destination. We have a strong club when we can field that many volunteers. It makes a quick project out of what would have been a long ordeal for just a few. We were on the way before noon. Matt and Jim's Central America Trip : We are still alive and well, and having a fantastic time. It keeps getting better around every corner. The pictures do not do this country justice, the video is going to be even better.

Cool stuff: Best motorcycle roads ever, best parts of Left Hand Canyon over and over again. It is rarely strait, just one turn after another. People are so nice, they don't care where we are from, they don't even ask. They love the bikes and don't ask for anything. We can ride as fast as we want and pass everything. We just wave at the few cops we see and they just smile at us.

Bad stuff: For the most part the roads are fine. Large pot holes have been few, but lots filled in with gravel that need to be avoided. Big trucks hauling ass crossing the center line can wake you up from the dream too. Lots of dogs, and people walking along the small two lane roads also need to be avoided. I've been picking the smallest ones hoping they are the quickest to get out of the way, and if I do hit them it might not bring me down.

The most dangerous thing going on is trying to take these still pictures while dealing with all the stuff above. The video is much easier, and we have a lot more of it. Jim is working on getting in up on his smugmug site. Google keycoydog to check it out. More to come as I get more pictures...enjoy

The Ride for Kids 2007 was an exciting and fun event for volunteers and participants. Many generous motorcyclists gave to support the goal of eliminating brain tumors from kids, and helping those that current are afflicted. There were four "stars" in attendance, each precious, and each with their own great story of combatting the disease.
Perhaps next year we will have an even greater presence as a club?!

July 1 Breakfast ride to Mt. Evans : About 10 bikes left the Red Rocks Grill after Saturday Breakfast, headed to Mt. Evans....nice T-shirt weather until we got to the park entrance ($3.00/bike). Here we were told that a bike accident occurred 9 miles from the entrance. The road was in really poor shape at this location, at a amall rest area near a small lake...the rider was unconscious	and was awaiting a helicopter. We had to stop at this location for a few minutes while they directed traffic. We never made it to the top; got caught in a nasty dark cloud full of thunder and soft pea-sized hail that covered 80% of the ground. We all flipped a 'Uey' and returned to Denver via Idaho Springs. Sunshine returned at the park entrance.. here are a few photos.
